Dog Brothers Martial Arts · Grand Blanc, Michigan

A training group for weapons-aware fighting.

We're not a school. We're a small group of adults who meet once a week to make martial arts work when weapons are in play. Bring whatever style you have. We'll help you test it.

What we work on

Dog Brothers Martial Arts is Filipino Martial Arts with an MMA mindset. We cover sticks, blades, empty hands, and firearms, and how all of them change the fight when they show up.

DBMA is a system of many styles. It pulls from whatever holds up under pressure, so your boxing, BJJ, or traditional FMA has a place here.

How class runs

Most of class is partner drilling at a controlled pace. Sometimes we spar, and it's light and playful.

Hard, full-contact sparring happens only at special events, and it's always optional. Plenty of people train for years and never do it. It still shapes how we train, because it shows us what actually works.

A good fit if you

  • Want skills that hold up under pressure
  • Already train something else and want to add weapons
  • Like a small group with a lot of individual attention
  • Are fine with progress that takes years

Probably not a fit if you

  • Want classes four or five days a week
  • Want a belt in three or four years
  • Are looking for forms or choreography only

Why it's small

Not many people want to do what we do. That's fine with us. The people who show up get a lot of one-on-one time, and cross-training at other gyms is encouraged.
